GUWAHATI: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla visited Kaziranga National Park (KNP) today.
Speaker Birla visited the tea production units located in the Hathikul area of Kaziranga during the day.
Interacting with tea garden workers, the Speaker appreciated their skills and listened to their problems. He said that the workers select each leaf with great skill and diligence and process the leaves with modern techniques. Indian tea holds a special place in the world due to its quality. It is a matter of happiness that the demand for tea leaves produced in India is increasing continuously, observed Birla.
The Speaker further said that issues relating to problems of tea garden workers have come up in Parliament for discussion by the members. He said that he would discuss these issues with the Assam Government.
Earlier, State Agriculture Minister Atul Bora and the local people around Kaziranga gave a grand welcome to the Lok Sabha Speaker.
Speaker Birla will inaugurate the 8th CPA India Region Conference at Guwahati on April 11.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary and others will address the delegates. The theme of the conference is "Strengthening Legislative Oversight to Help Optimize Development Outcome for the Aspirational Sections of Society". The delegates will deliberate on (i) mainstreaming youth-centric policies; and (ii) harnessing youth energies for national development and the common good.
The valedictory session of the conference will be on April 12. Assam Governor Prof Jagadish Mukhi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and others will grace the occasion, a press release said.
