GUWAHATI: Apart from online classes, the State Education Department is contemplating on tasking an alternative plan to make up the loss that the students of primary and secondary classes have to suffer during the second wave of the COVID-19.
When The Sentinel brought to his notice the academic loss that primary and secondary school students of the State have to suffer, State Education Minister Dr Ronuj Pegu said, "We're worried over the situation. The pandemic is a major hurdle for us to take anything tangible. The online option is there, but that is not feasible for all.
"We're contemplating on giving fortnightly assignments to the students. The students will have to submit the assignment done. If this move proves to be successful, we'll give such assignments weekly. The Education Department is going to issue an order to this effect shortly. We also keep our hope alive that the pandemic situation will improve gradually."
The HS-passed meritorious girl students were given Scooty before the Assembly election in the State. However, in many districts, such Scooties have not been provided to the target beneficiaries. The two-wheelers are lying idle.
When asked about this issue, Pegu said, "We've decided to issue a special SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) in consultation with the State Health Department for the distribution of the two-wheelers to the HS-passed meritorious girl students. The two-wheelers couldn't be distributed because of the second wave of the COVID-19. All target beneficiaries will get them."
