GUWAHATI: There are many asymptomatic patients in Guwahati even as the number of people affected by coronavirus has not reduced despite the ongoing lockdown with relaxations.

During the period from June 28 to July 19, 2020, the city registered 10,140 positive cases. While the highest single-day spike of 777 cases was recorded on July 4, the lowest spike of 134 was on July 3.

The following statistics of COVID-19 cases during these 22 days indicate the ground reality. The Health department data indicate the date-wise positive cases: June 28 (195 cases); June 29 (172); June 30 (380); July 1 (378); July 2 (238); July 3 (134); July 4 (777); July 5 (552); July 6 (598); July 7 (588); July 8 (423); July 9 (355); July 10 (521); July 11 (410); July 12 (400); July 13 (513); July 14 (627); July 15 (649); July 16 (598); July 17 (570); July 18 (515); and July 19 (577).

Dr Jyoti Prasad Barman, Medical Officer of COVID-19 Scanning Centre (Ward Number 30) told The Sentinel, "We haven't come across any COVID-related symptoms among the majority of persons who have been tested in this centre. However, a few of them have indicated symptoms related to fever, body ache, and sore throat. Of the 35 to 40 patients who undergo the Rapid Antigen Test here daily, five to six persons on the average are positive cases.

Dr Sangita Chetia Choudhury, Medical Officer of Dispur Model Government Hospital said, "Of the 12 to 15 COVID-positive patients that we register here on the average daily, the number of asymptomatic patients are more."
