Massive Response to Ajanta Neog Appeal; Suggestions glut Finance Department

GUWAHATI: State Finance Minister Ajanta Neog's recent appeal for budget-related suggestions and innovative ideas has received a massive response. She sought to know how the State Budget for fiscal 2021-22 should look.

To date, the State Finance Department has received over 9,000 suggestions. Most of the suggestions came through emails and WhatsApp. The department will receive proposals by Saturday.

While some of the suggestions are innovative, a few others are common ones. The problems of home guards, HS-passed girl students not getting Scooty under the Pragyan Bharati Scheme, TET-passed candidates not getting jobs, C-TET (Central-TET)-passed candidates not getting a job in State Government schools etc., are the highlights.

The department is examining the suggestions to separate the wheat from the chaff. And the Finance Minister is leading from the front in the scrutiny. Neog already met 57 departments on their budgetary proposals and utilization of funds allocated in the last Budget. Some of the departments, according to sources, extended some innovative ideas.

Neog will table the 2021-22 annual Budget of the State in the Assembly on July 16. She has the distinction as the first woman Finance Minister at Dispur to present the State Budget.

The preparation for the Budget is going on in full swing.
