GUWAHATI: Guwahati Police arrested the mastermind of JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) scam, BhargavDeka at the LGBI (LokpriyaGopinathBordoloi International) Airport in Borjhar here on Sunday evening. Deka was returning from Bangkok via Delhi. Deka was taken to the Azara Police Station.
Meanwhile, operations are on at various places. More arrests are likely.
BhargavDeka is the owner of Global Edulight at Ambari in the city. Arrested candidate of JEE (Mains), Neel Nakshatra Das, was a student of this institution. Neel had scored 99.8 per cent in the national-level qualifying examination for engineering institutes of the country.
Stating that the proxy candidate, who appeared in place of Neel, was from Bihar, police sources added that it is possible via some software which can be controlled remotely. "Our cyber team is investigating various aspects of such possibilities. If required, a team from Guwahati Police will proceed to Bihar," added the sources.
With Deka's arrest, it will be possible to find out the modus operandi of the institution and the scamsters, said the sources, adding that the arrested counsellor of Edulight, KakoliBuzarbarua had finalized the deals with candidates. Following her instructions, Neel was taken to the Ion Digital Zone – the examination centre – at Borjhar by his father DrJyotirmoy Das, the sources said.
Both the father and son are now in police custody.
