GUWAHATI: The mega Bihu dance recital to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records will now be on April 13 at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati. However, the Bihu danseuses will also perform on April 14 in front of the Prime Minister. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made it clear before the media today.

Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister said, “We planned the mega Bihu recital for submission to the Guinness Book of World Records on April 14. That would make us get the certificate from the Guinness Book of World Records on April 15. Now the attempt to add Bihu to the record book will be from 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm on Thursday. It will make us get the certificate for the record on April 14 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We have registered in the record book in two categories: Bihu dance and playing Dhol. The recital will remain open for the public. I request the people of Guwahati to enjoy the recital tomorrow. On April 14, the Prime Minister’s visit will lead to security beefing up, allowing only the invitees and people who have their entry pass.”

The Chief Minister said, “Each of the danseuses, Dhulias, and their master trainers will get an additional amount of Rs 25,000 so as to allow them to perform in their respective places by procuring instruments or opening institutions. The participants will get a certificate each from the National Skill Development Corporation. I, personally, will give a thank-you letter to each of them if we add Bihu to the record book.”

The State Government announced earlier that it would pay Rs 10,000 to each of the participants as remuneration.

With the inclusion of more projects for NF Railway, the Prime Minister will either lay foundation stones or inaugurate projects worth over Rs 14,000 crore on April 14, the Chief Minister said. Earlier, the Prime Minister was supposed to lay the foundation for or inaugurate projects worth Rs 8,500 crore.

The Chief Minister said the government would hold Sat Bihu in all districts in the state starting next year in collaboration with civil societies. He said, “We will hold Sat Bihu with the traditional fervour and government expenditure. This is to make the new generation aware of Sat Bihu.”

On the celebration of Bihu programmes, he said, “I appeal to all to end all Bihu programmes within Bohag 30. Celetrating Bihu in Jeth doesn’t augur well. If anybody holds Bihu after Bohag, they better do that not as Bihu but as a cultural nite.”
