MGNREGA scam: BDO of Gauripur Development Block Khabir Uddin Ahmed suspended

GUWAHATI: Assam government on Monday suspended Block Development Officer (BDO) of Gauripur Development Block in Dhubri district, Khabir Uddin Ahmed for his alleged involvement in misappropriation of funds by making payment of wages under the MGNREGA scheme without procuring the materials and engaging semi-skilled workers.

An inquiry was conducted but the Additional Commissioner of Panchayat and Rural Development Department revealed that the BDO had made the payment to vendors without a supply of materials.

In addition to this, the BDO has been arrested by the police in connection with case No 1097/2021 under sections 120(B), 406, 409, 465, 468, 471420, and 511 of IPC on September 9. He has been asked not to leave the headquarters without prior permission from the authority, an official release here said on Monday.
