GUWAHATI: Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma distributed appointment letters to 4,511 teachers from the primary to the high school levels at the Veterinary College field at Khanapara here on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Sarma said, "Around 12,000 teachers were appointed illegally and irregularly in 1989, 1991 and 2001. After taking all aspects into consideration, we have given appointment letters to 4,511 teachers. Many of the other candidates are overage now.
"On February 5, 2021 also we're going to distribute appointment letters to around 25,000 TET (Teachers' Eligibility Test)-qualified and other teachers. During my tenures as the Education Minister, I've given appointment letters to around one lakh teachers. Even then, around 20 per cent problems of the department are still to be solved."
