GUWAHATI: The Ministry of DoNER (Development of North Eastern Region) has approved five schemes at the cost of Rs 556.28 crore under NESIDS (OTRI) (North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme—Other Than Road Infrastructure) in Assam.

The Ministry had the meeting of its Empowered Inter-Ministerial Committee (EIMC) in New Delhi recently under the chairmanship of the Secretary, Ministry of DoNER. Other higher officials of DoNER and the Assam Government were also present at the meeting, besides a deputy secretary of NITI Aayog. Assam placed several project proposals under NESIDS at the meeting for consideration. After examination of the proposals, the ministry approved five projects in Assam.

According to sources in DoNER, the five projects are: transformation of 50 schools of the state as centres of excellence costing Rs 400 crore; legacy waste treatment in 39 ULBs (Urban Local Bodies) in the state costing Rs 102.73 crore; development of industrial estates for setting up small and medium industries at Ramphalbil in Kokrajhar at the cost of Rs 14.83 crore; Bodoland Movement Memorial Museum at Salbari in Baksa (recommended in principle) at the cost of Rs 20 crore; and an industrial estate at Lakhibazar at Kokilabari (recommended in principle) at the cost of Rs 18.72 crore.

The State Government did justify why the Ministry of DoNER should fund the proposed projects of Assam under NESIDS at the EIMC meeting.
