GUWAHATI: The number of motor accidents has declined after the imposition of lockdown in the State. According to a report by the Guwahati Traffic Branch, a total of 408 motor accident cases have been recorded in Guwahati till the month of August in 2020. While out of the total cases 112 have been fatal, 296 have been non-fatal. As many as 119 persons were killed and 280 were injured in the accidents.

It is to be noted that after the lockdown was imposed the number of accident cases declined significantly. According to the report, in January and February - 103 and 83 cases were recorded respectively. The nationwide lockdown was imposed in the mid of March and the month recorded 67 accident cases followed by only 16 cases in April. 30 cases were registered in May, followed by 48 in June, 25 in July and 36 in August. The report stated, while 191 of the accidents occurred on the National Highways, 146 cases were recorded on the State Highways. Out of the total fatalities 74 have occurred in the National Highways.
