GUWAHATI: To promote and propagate the eternal ideals of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev, the Assam Government signed an MoU with Jawharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, today for the establishment of the Srimanta Sankardev Chair in the university.
This is the third Srimanta Sankardev chair instituted at a university. The first such chair is at Vishva Bharati University, and the second is at Punjab University.
After the MoU signing programme, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma explained the purpose of the institution of the chair. He said, “Study on the enduring relevance of Srimanta Sankardev and his Bhakti Movement in contemporary Indian society, discussion and research on the Bhakti Movement of Sankardev in national and international contexts, research and honorary degrees on the Bhakti Movement of Assam and India, its history, organizational forms, literatures, cultures, and Brajavali language, etc. are the reasons behind the chair.”
