GUWAHATI: The Lok Sabha MPs (Members of Parliament) from Assam have not yet recommended works of around Rs 100 crore from the fund for the MPLADS (MP’s Local Area Development Scheme) released by the Central Government in the past three financial years.

Responding to a question from MP Thomas Chazhikadan in the Lok Sabha today, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation informed the House of this. The Ministry also informed the Lok Sabha of the details of MPLADS funds in other states.

According to information, the Centre disbursed Rs 289.50 crore to the 14 Lok Sabha MPs of Assam in the past three financial years, and the MPs recommended works worth Rs 189.75 crore.

The MP-wise breakup of the fund disbursed and fund recommended for schemes is: Rajdeep Roy recommended works worth Rs 14.40 crore against Rs 19 crore disbursed, Maulana Badruddin Ajmal recommended works worth Rs 14.45 crore against Rs 21.50 crore disbursed, Rameswar Teli recommended works worth Rs 6.63 crore against Rs 14.50 crore, Abdul Khaleque recommended works worth Rs 7.28 crore against Rs 16.50 crore, Gaurav Gogoi recommended works worth Rs 14.20 crore against Rs 21.50 crore, Naba Kumar Sarania recommended works worth Rs 14.62 crore against Rs 21.50 crore, Pallab Lochan Das recommended works worth Rs 12 crore against Rs 17 crore, Pradan Baruah recommended works worth Rs 15.30 crore against Rs 21.50 crore, Topon Kumar Gogoi recommended works worth Rs 12.43 crore against Rs 16.50 crore, Dilip Saikia recommended works worth Rs 9.52 crore against Rs 17 crore, Horen Sing Bey recommended works worth Rs 33.50 crore against Rs 52 crore, Kripanath Mallah recommended works worth Rs 7.25 crore against Rs 14.50 crore, Pradyut Bordoloi recommended works worth Rs 17.44 crore against Rs 19.50 crore, and Queen Oja recommended works worth Rs 10.73 crore against Rs 17 crore.

The objective of the scheme is to enable MPs to recommend works of a developmental nature with an emphasis on the creation of durable community assets based on the locally felt needs to be taken up in their Constituencies. Right from the inception of the Scheme, durable assets of national priorities, viz., drinking water, primary education, public health, sanitation, roads, etc., are being created. Each of such schemes has a construction committee that works under the supervision of the respective district commissioner.
