MPLAD scam: CM's Special Vigilance Cell arrests two persons in Majuli

GUWAHATI: The sleuths of the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell arrested two persons—former Jorhat ADC (Development) Anjanabh Chaliha and Majuli Assistant Planning Officer Jitumoni Dutta—for their involvement in the Rs 1 crore misappropriation of MPLAD (MP’s Local Area Development) fund in Majuli.

According to sources, around Rs 1 crore meant for the installation of deep tube wells and hand pumps in Majuli was swindled without implementing the schemes. CM’s Special Vigilance Cell registered a case (4/2017) in this regard in 2017. The sleuths arrested the duo after grilling them today. The court sent them into judicial custody.
