GUWAHATI: The one-man commission of Justice T. Vaiphei, constituted by the Government of Meghalaya, has agreed to the Assam Government’s application to record the evidence of the latter’s witnesses to the Mukroh firing incident in November 2022, in Guwahati on June 15 and 16, 2023.

The Assam Government made the request for the hearing of its witnesses in Guwahati, considering the sensitive nature of the Mukroh incident.

Now, the Commission of Inquiry will examine and cross-examine the Assam police officers and personnel as well as officials of the Forest Department on June 15 and 16, 2023, at 11 a.m. in Guwahati.

Assam will produce its witnesses on that day. The Assam Government made it clear that Meghalaya would have the right to cross-examine the witnesses to be produced.

Earlier, the Justice Vaiphei Commission heard the counsels of Meghalaya and Assam before agreeing to the request for hearing in Guwahati made by the Assam Government.
