GUWAHATI: The President of India Ram Nath Kovind said on Friday that the nation stands with the people of Assam who are going through a very difficult time due to floods. He hoped that the difficult times would soon be over.
The President talked to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal over phone on Friday and took stock of flood situation in the State. During the conversation, Chief Minister Sonowal apprised the President that along with flood, the State is fighting against COVID-19, erosion, storm, landslides, African swine fever and a gas well fire at Baghjan in Tinsukia district. The Chief Minister said that huge areas including farm lands and houses have been severely affected by flood and erosion in the State. He said that the government machinery has been put in high alert. The district administrations have made adequate arrangements for sheltering the affected people and sufficient measures are taken for the children and elderly, he said.
Sonowal thanked the President on behalf of the people of Assam for his call and sought his blessings to tide over the present crisis, a press release said.
