Respite for administration
STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI: The acute shortage of ACS (Assam Civil Service) officers in the state administration has led the State Government to take the decision to appoint the 121 newly selected ACS Junior Grade cadres on October 29. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will distribute the appointment letters.
Generally, ACS and allied cadres get an appointment one month or so after the declaration of their results by the APSC (Assam Public Service Commission). However, this time they will get an appointment barely seven days after their results. The APSC declared the results of the CCE (Combined Competitive Examination)-2020 on October 21.
The appointment of ACS cadres will give a respite to the state administration that feels the shortage of ACS officers in the public delivery system at the grassroots level. The Chief Minister will also hand over appointment letters to the cadres of the allied services on the same day.
Meanwhile, the 331 ACS and allied cadres will go for medical examinations on Thursday and Friday. The government has also asked the candidates to take affidavits that they have no pending criminal cases against them.
After their appointment, the ACS cadres will go for a 14-day induction training. They will get their respective places of posting during the induction training.
The 331 ACS and allied cadres comprise 121 ACS- junior grade, 69 APS cadres, six Superintendent of Taxes, five DTOs (District Transport Officers), 18 Labour Inspectors, 27 Inspectors of Taxes, seven Inspectors of Excise, 33 Block Development Officers, four Assistant Employment Officers, 31 Sub-Registrars and ten Assistant Managers of Industries.
