TINSUKIA: The Principal Bench of National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Chairman and the Member Secretary of the ASPCB (Assam State Pollution Control Board) to be personally present before the bench on September 17, 2020. This is with reference to a petition filed against the Oil India Limited (OIL). The bench has also directed the respondent advocate to ensure that the report on the case is filed on this date that the bench set for the next hearing.

The NGT Bench is headed by Justice SP Wangdi, Judicial Member, and Dr Nagin Nanda, Expert Member.

This Principal Bench of NGT, in its order on August 13, has taken exception to non-appearance of Assam State Pollution Control Board (ASPCB) despite notice being served, during the hearing of a petition filed by Bimal Gogoi against the Oil India Limited (OIL) pertaining to the issuance of Environmental Clearance (EC) granted on May 11, 2020 in favour of M/s Oil India Ltd. (OIL) for drilling seven wells for hydrocarbon exploration.

Earlier on July 20, 2020, the NGT had directed the Ministry of Environment, Forest &Climate Change (MoEF &CC) and the Assam State Pollution Control Board (ASPCB) to submit report dealing with the specific questions raised by Bimal Gogoi.
