SIVASAGAR: With the objective of improving road safety, as well as making rides smoother for passengers, the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) has been directed to speed up four-laning works of National Highway-37 stretching from Jorhat to Moran.

Presiding over a review meeting at the Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner's office chamber on Saturday afternoon, Jorhat Lok Sabha MP Tapan Kumar Gogoi, in presence of Amguri MLA Prodip Hazarika, Thowra MLA Sushanta Borgohain and Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Megha Nidhi Dahal, expressed grave concern and resentment over the tardy four-laning works and repairing of the National Highway-37 stretching from Jorhat to Moran.

Amguri MLA Prodip Hazarika asked representatives of NHIDCL to complete the earth-filling works at the earliest, otherwise, it will pose difficulties for commuters. Priority must be accorded by NHIDCL to complete the remaining work before the monsoon begins, Hazarika said.

Thowra MLA Sushanta Borgohain, while referring to the plight of the commuters due to the deplorable condition of the NH-37 under construction, asked the NHIDCL officials to resolve the issues by carrying out the construction and repairing works of NH-37 at the earliest.

Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner MN Dahal said that these issues would be reviewed in the next meeting to be held after one month. The meeting also asked the NHIDCL officials to repair the large potholes on the national highways and to take necessary measures to ensure the precaution signage for vehicular access to the roads. Besides instructing them to resolve these issues expeditiously, it was also stated in the meeting that action would be taken against them if they are not able to complete the task within the next three to four months.

The meeting was also attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Bitupan Neog and Sivasagar Revenue Circle Officer Dr Jeevan Krishna Goswami.
