GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made it clear that in no way the State government would allow further division of Assam. The Chief Minister said in his reaction to the report doing rounds that a state of Kamatapur would come out with some districts of Assam and West Bengal.

Ananta Roy, fondly called Maharaj, a prominent leader of the Greater Cooch Behar People's Association and the Rajbongsi community, said recently that the Kamatapur State would come out with some districts of Assam and Cooch Behar in West Bengal.

The Chief Minister said, "This is his statement. I have nothing to say about that. We plan to strengthen the BTR, Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) and the Kamatapur Autonomous Council (KAC), not to divide Assam again."

The Chief Minister said the Centre would sign a peace accord with the Adivasi insurgent groups soon.

On the Orunodoi Scheme, the Chief Minister said, "The re-verification of Orunodoi scheme beneficiaries beginning on August 20, 2022, has revealed that around 62,000 ineligible beneficiaries are availing of the benefits of the scheme. Around 2,000 of the beneficiaries have given up the scheme benefits themselves."
