GUWAHATI: The government has taken steps to prevent road accidents and ensure road safety. Come 2022, students, teachers and employees with two-wheelers will not be allowed entry into colleges and universities if they do not wear helmets.

As per recommendation of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety (CORS), the Director of Higher Education, Assam has instructed the Registrars of all State universities and Principals of government colleges, government model colleges and provincialized colleges in State to constitute a Transport Management Committees (TMCs) in their respective institutions on or before December 31, 2021. The TMCs will issue vehicle entry cards to all persons with vehicles inside the campus. The committee will also verify all relevant documents of vehicles.

The Registrars and Principals have been asked to enforce the 'No helmet, no entry' policy in their institutions with hoardings to be displayed at the entrance gates. They have also been instructed to carry out road safety-awareness programmes in a scientific and systematic manner and also to undertake programmes to educate all stakeholders on road safety.
