GUWAHATI: The BJP Assam Pradesh has allayed fear from the people of the country and assured them that Article 371 of the Constitution of India will not be scrapped. Addressing a press meet at the State BJP headquarters at Hengrabari here on Friday, MP Dilip Kumar Saikia said, “When the Constitution (Application to Jammu & Kashmir) Order, 2019 was tabled in the Parliament, the debate that ensued over it was fittingly answered by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He responded that Article 370 was never a permanent Article in the Constitution whereas Article 371 has always been a permanent Article. As such, the Central government has no plans to scrap Article 371.”

Saikia further stated that the Autonomous Councils would not be dissolved and the States would continue to avail benefits under serials A to J of Article 371. “The passage of Constitution (Application to Jammu and Kashmir) Order 2019 was a golden moment for us. Before the abrogation of Article 370 and 35 (A), we had to assert that J&K is an integral part of India, but now we have no reason to prove that as J&K has already attained the same position as any other State in the Country,” he said.

“Moreover, due to Articles 370 and 35 (A), around 106 Acts couldn’t be enforced in J&K. Now all those Acts can be enforced in Jammu & Kashmir. The abrogation of Article 370 and 35 (A) put an end to 153 Acts that there enforced in Jammu & Kashmir,” Saikia said.

State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, MP Topon Kumar Gogoi, and MP Queen Ojha, who was also present at the press meet, thanked the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister for ensuring the one-nation one-Act policy.
