GUWAHATI: The AASU (All Assam Students’ Union) has warned all political parties not to do politics on the students’ organization.

Talking to The Sentinel on Wednesday, AASU adviser-in-chief Samujjal Bhattacharjya said: “In the recent past the All Assam Students’ Union had to meet leaders of various political parties to mobilize a stand against the Citizenship (Amendment), Bill. However, no party should try to draw political mileage out of that. Everybody knows that the All Assam Students’ Union is an apolitical organization, and it is firm to keep its apolitical character intact.”

Recently a statement from the Congress gave such an impression that this time around the AASU is going to support the Congress. Indirectly reacting to the statement from the Congress, the AASU adviser-in-chief had to make such a statement on Wednesday.

Samujjal Bhattacharjya further said: “The BJP has made its stand on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill clear. The party says that if it comes to power it will bring the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill again. Now it is the public to decide who they should vote for. In the democracy, power goes to the party that gets people’s mandate.”
