GUWAHATI: In a paradigm shift in licensing, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that 'one does not have to obtain any trade licence to do business in panchayat areas, barring bars and wineshops'.

Addressing BJP workers here today, the Chief Minister said, "We will do away with trade licences for doing business in panchayat areas, barring bars and wine shops. Panchayat presidents issue licences for people to do business in their areas, at present."

The Chief Minister said, "We endeavour to nominate honest and dedicated candidates who are willing to serve society with utmost sincerity and realize Prime Minister's vision of AatmaNirbhar Bharat.

"I urge karyakartas to dedicate themselves for the cause of society and strengthen our government's resolve to build quality urban infrastructure in all 102 municipal areas. To keep our cities clean, I urge all karyakartas to remove all posters, wall writing etc., once the campaigning ends.

"Every municipal area in the state will have an auditorium with a capacity of 1,000. We will shift the jails from district headquarters to make their lands available for other purposes. Every town area will have indoor and outdoor stadia. We have plans to integrate all offices with the DC offices and to shift them to the outskirts. Modern street-lighting, supply of potable water, improved sewerage and draining systems, parks, and other infrastructure will make the very essence of the urban areas in the state."
