GUWAHATI: Noted singer Apurba Bezbaruah breathed his last at a city hospital today. He was 70.

The singer collapsed in his Guwahati residence. He was admitted to the hospital on Monday last.

Born on October 15, 1951, at Nazira, Apurba Bezbaruah was one of the most popular singers of the state. The playback singer gave his voice to around 200 audio cassettes, besides composing over 2,000 songs. He also had several books to his credit. He was the music director of several films and TV serials. He was a recipient of the Silpi Award from the State Government in 2020.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma condoled the death of the singer. He said that the demise of the singer is an irreparable loss to the cultural arena of the state.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also said that the loss due to the death of the singer would be difficult to fill.

State Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Borah, Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, state BJP president Bhabesh Kalita, leaders of the All Assam Students' Union and All Guwahati Students' Union and many Bihu committees of the state and the artiste fraternity condoled the death.
