GUWAHATI: Sleuths of the Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell arrested the then Dhubri ADC (Additional Deputy Commissioner) Saibar Rahman on Tuesday, on the charge of acquiring property disproportionate to his known sources of income, through 'corrupt' means.

The inquiry is the follow-up of a case (01/2021 U/S 420/406/409 IPC R/W S 13(1)(b)/12(c) of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018). The investigation of the complaint, lodged in the police station of the Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell, was based on an order from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO).

The investigators calculated Rahman's income, assets and expenditure from June 23, 2002, to April 30, 2021.

The investigators found that Rahman got 89 landed properties registered in his or one of his two wives' names from June 23, 2002, to April 30, 2021. The market value of the landed property is more than Rs 100 crore.

The inquiry also revealed that Rahman possesses both movable and immovable assets to the tune of Rs 6,38,12,188. It is as per the calculation of 95 per cent of disproportionate assets against his known sources of income.

According to sources, Rahman, hailing from Koyakuchi in Barpeta district, owns two buildings in Guwahati – one at Beltola and the other at Hatigaon.
