GUWAHATI: Veteran Left leader Hemen Das of the CPI (M) has said that the six-party alliance in the State is aimed at defeating the BJP in the forthcoming Assembly election.
Talking to The Sentinel, the ageing Left leader said, "After the BJP coming to power in Assam, an atmosphere of communal hatred has been prevailing in the State. India being a secular country, we should respect all faiths.
"In the past five years, the BJP has given a number of false assurances to the people of the State, besides resorting to cheap politics. We've got into a huddle with the one-point agendum – defeating the BJP.
Recently a grand alliance has been formed in the State. The constituent members of the alliance are the Congress, AIUDF, CPI(M), CPI, CPI(ML) and the AnchalikGanaMorcha (AGM).
Das further said, "Two other regional parties – the AJP (AsomJatiyaParishad) and the Raijor Dal – were formed in the State recently. We appeal to them to join the grand alliance. If they join the alliance, it will be easier to make the BJP bite the dusts."
When asked on seat-sharing arrangements among the coalition partners, Das said, "Parleys will start soon among the six constituent parties of the alliance."
