 Works of projects costing around Rs 15,000 crore to start on December 5

GUWAHATI: State Cabinet took a slew of decisions today, including approval of 322 land allotment proposals, three more flyovers in Guwahati, clubbing of the Indira Miri Widow Pension and Deendayal Divyang Pension with Orunudoi.

After the Cabinet meeting at Silchar today, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "The Cabinet approved the inclusion of 10.57 lakh new beneficiaries in Orunodoi which has 17 lakh beneficiaries now. The new beneficiaries will get the benefits from April 1, 2023. The state exchequer will cost around Rs 4,000 crore annually for the Orunodoi scheme. With these inclusions, the beneficiaries of Indira Miri Widow Pension getting Rs 250 now will get Rs 1,250 under Orunodoi. Likewise, Divyang pensioners getting Rs 1,000 per month now will get Rs 1,250 per month under Orunodoi. We will include another eight lakh new beneficiaries under the Orunodoi scheme in the next financial year."

On land allotment, the Chief Minister said, "The Cabinet approved 322 proposals for land allotment from NGOs, schools, socio-cultural and charitable organizations. Rampur Bagan LP School in Tinsukia did apply for land allotment 32 years back.

We approved that proposal today. The government is clearing all such pending issues now."

He said, "The government has planned to replace traffic points with flyovers in Guwahati city for hassle-free traffic movement. The Cabinet approved the proposals for three new flyovers – one on the GS road in front of the Downtown Hospital, one at Fatasil Chowk and one at Kumarpara Chowk – in the city. The Cabinet also approved a new road from Airport Terminal to Azara."

He said, "The government will start two development fortnights (Vikash Pokhek) from December 5-18 and January 5-20, 2022. During the first fortnight, the works of district projects costing around Rs 15,000 crore will start. These are already announced projects like medical colleges, universities, stadia, new bridges, and new DC offices, including the Samadhisthal of Lachit Barphukan. The works on the second bridge from Majuli to Lakhimpur will start on December 11, 2022. The Bhoomi Pujan ceremony of the Samadhisthal of Lachit Barphukan will be on December 16, 2022."
