GUWAHATI: The State Government will carry out two successive verification drives – from June 15 to July 15 and from July 15 to August 15 this year— to update the list of beneficiaries under the 'Orunodoi' scheme.

It is part of the celebration of the completion of a year by the BJP-led government in the state. It aims to set up a milestone for the second term of this State Government.

'Orunodoi' scheme benefits women only. It is a pioneering scheme in the country for the poor through the DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) mode.

The twin objectives of the first verification drive from June 15-July 15 are – (i) to ascertain the number of beneficiaries coming out of the BPL (Below Poverty Line) category since its inception and (ii) to ascertain if any ineligible beneficiaries are in the list.

Deletion of ineligible beneficiaries (if any) and beneficiaries who have come out of the BPL category mark the second verification drive from July 15-August 15. The inclusion of 5,000 new beneficiaries in each of the 126 LACs (Legislative Assembly Constituencies) is one of the purposes of this drive.

Each beneficiary woman gets Rs 1,000 per month (Rs 850 per month earlier) under the 'Orunodoi' Scheme. The twin purposes of the scheme are women empowerment and taking poor women out of the BPL category in sync with SDG (Sustainable Development Goal) commitment. The Finance Department implements this unique scheme. The last BJP-led government launched this scheme in 2020.
