Over 1,270 subject teacher posts are vacant: Higher Secondary teachers’ body

The (AAHSTEA) has raised the demand for the filling up of 1,270 posts of subject teachers remaining vacant in 571 provincialized higher secondary schools in the state, as the NEP-2020 is already in force.

GUWAHATI: The All Assam Higher Secondary Teachers and Employees’ Association (AAHSTEA) has raised the demand for the filling up of 1,270 posts of subject teachers remaining vacant in 571 provincialized higher secondary schools in the state, as the NEP-2020 is already in force.

In his letter to Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, the association’s general secretary, Jiten Chandra Hazarika, gave details of the vacancies of subject teachers in all streams, both district and higher secondary school-wise.

According to the letter, the highest number of vacancies (416) are in MILs (Modern Indian Languages), including 361 in Assamese, 42 in Bengali, eight in Bodo, three in Manipuri, and one each in Nepali and Persian. Following MILs are History with 140 vacancies, Advance Assamese with 130 vacancies, and English with 94 vacancies.

The district-wise breakup of the vacancies is: 113 in Nagaon; 68 in Dhubri; 25 in Kokrajhar; 27 each in Morigaon, Dhemaji, and Baksa; 42 in Udalguri; 32 each in Sonitpur and Hojai; 39 in Sivasagar; 43 in Tinsukia; 77 in Cachar; 87 in Karinganj; 59 in Nalbari; 53 each in Kamrup Metro and Biswanath; 41 in Goalpara; 44 in Charaideo; 18 in Bongaigaon; 40 in Karbi Anglong; 21 in Darrang; 33 in Jorhat; 37 in Dibrugarh; 19 each in Majuli and Golaghat; 29 in South Salmara; 35 in Lakhimpur; 62 in Kamrup; and 68 in Barpeta.

Speaking to The Sentinel in this regard, the association’s general secretary, Jiten Chandra Hazarika, said, “We have collected all this data through our 29 district committees with emphasis on its accuracy. We have excluded the higher secondary schools provincialized after 2013 and the government higher secondary schools from this list. Apart from these, we have not covered the data of Hailakandi, Dima Hasao, and Chirang districts in this list.”
