Over 30 Assam MLAs to visit Bangladesh

 Legislators to go to Assamese & Bodo villages

GUWAHATI: A delegation of more than 30 MLAs of the State, of both the ruling party and the Opposition, will leave for Bangladesh on November 15 with a goodwill mission. This visit to the neighbouring country is expected to further strengthen the friendly ties between Assam and Bangladesh.

The delegation will be led by Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary. Leader of the Opposition, Debabrata Saikia, will also be a part of the delegation. A cultural troupe will also accompany the delegation. The troupe will showcase Assam's rich culture in Bangladesh.

The delegation will leave for Agartala on November 15 and after a night halt at Agartala, the delegation will continue its journey to Dhaka by road. The delegation will return on November 20. During the visit, the MLAs of Assam will be meeting Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, the Speaker of the Parliament of Bangladesh. If feasible, they will also call on Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The delegation from Assam will interact with the ministers of Bangladesh and discuss ways to strengthen the bond of friendship and harmony between the two countries.

The delegation will visit a village named Rangamati where some Assamese mainstream people reside. The delegation will hold talks with these people. There will also be a cultural exchange between the cultural troupe from Assam and the villagers of Rangamati.

The delegation will also visit Khagrachari in Chittagong which is inhabited by Bodo people. They will interact with the people living there and there will also be a cultural exchange programme.
