GUWAHATI: Farmers in the state received the 15th installment of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM KISAN), along with their compatriots across the country on Wednesday.
PM Modi disbursed the 15th PM-KISAN tranche at an event in Jharkhand. An amount of around Rs 18,000 crore was released for 8 crore farmers throughout the country as the 15th installment of the PM KISAN scheme.
In Assam, a total of 12.09 lakh farmers were benefited under the PM-KISAN scheme, receiving an amount of Rs 2,000 each as the 15th installment. The amount was released by the government of India.
Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora virtually attended from his office in Dispur the PM’s programme releasing the 15th installment of PM-KISAN.
After the release function of the 15th installment of PM-KISAN for farmers, minister Atul Bora told The Sentinel, “Last time, when the 14th installment of PM-KISAN was released, a total of 8.75 farmers were benefited in the state. The 15th installment released today will benefit Assam’s 12.09 lakh farmers under the PM-KISAN scheme. An amount of Rs 2,000 was transferred to the bank accounts of each of the farmers through direct bank transfer (DBT). Compared to last time, 39% more farmers in the state were added under the PM-KISAN scheme. This has been made possible due to the initiative of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his guidance to the Agriculture Department, as a result of which 39% more beneficiaries were added under the PM-KISAN scheme.”
He further said, “The beneficiaries under the PM-KISAN scheme increased from 8.75 lakh to 12.09 lakh. I congratulate the officials of the Agriculture Department for adding 3.34 lakh new farmer beneficiaries from the time of the 14th installment.”
Atul Bora urged the Agriculture Department officials to bring under the scheme the rest of the eligible farmers who have been left out.
It should be mentioned here that the 13th installment of PM-KISAN benefited 6.15 lakh farmers in the state. The number of beneficiaries has nearly doubled in the 15th installment released today.
PM-KISAN is a central sector scheme launched in February 2019. It is aimed at providing financial assistance to all cultivable landholding farmer families across the country, subject to certain exclusion criteria. Under the scheme, an amount of Rs 6,000 is transferred annually in three equal installments of Rs 2,000 directly into the Aadhaar Seeded bank accounts of each of the beneficiary farmers.
A farmer-centric digital infrastructure has ensured the benefits of the scheme reach all farmers in the country without any involvement of middlemen, maintaining absolute transparency in registering and verifying beneficiaries. The government of India has disbursed over Rs 2.60 lakh crore to more than 11 crore farmers.
