15 candidates in fray in five constituencies under Lakhimpur district

LAKHIMPUR: Amid the scare posed by the third wave of COVID-19 contagion, the polling for the Thengal Kachari Autonomous Council (TKAC) Election, 2022 will be held on Thursday. The campaign for the election concluded on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the State Election Commission has completed all arrangements to conduct the polling of the same in all 26 constituencies of TKAC, constituted in Upper Assam region. Moreover, the Governor of Assam, by issuing a notification, has already declared a public holiday on Thursday for the people of the State who will cast votes for the 26-member TKAC.
Following the guidelines and directives of the State Election Commission, the Lakhimpur district administration has also completed its arrangements and taken necessary steps to conduct the polling in a free and fair environment in the five constituencies of TKAC falling under Lakhimpur district. A total of 15 contestants are in fray in the five constituencies under Lakhimpur district, viz No. 16 Bongalmora (East Dikrong ST) constituency, No. 17 Pabho (Laluk ST) constituency, No. 18 Lakhimpur East (Woman ST) constituency, No, 19 Bihpuriya South (ST) constituency and No, 20 Jokaipeluwa-Harmoti (ST) constituency.
In No. 16 Bongalmora (East Dikrong ST) constituency, highest four candidates are in fray. They are— Krishna Hazarika of Congress, Lekhan Borah of BJP, independent candidates Abinash Saikia and Botukrishna Borah. On the other hand, Keshav Neog of BJP, Mahendra Saikia of Congress, independent candidate Thaneswar Saikia have offered their candidature for the member of No. 17 Pabho (Laluk ST) constituency. Jyoti Borah Saikia of BJP is in contest against Tulumoni Sonowal Borah of Congress in No. 18 Lakhimpur East (Woman ST) constituency. Former AGP MLA Kesharam Borah is in contest as BJP candidate against Raj Kumar Borah of Congress and independent candidate Ramakanta Borah in No. 19 Bihpuriya South (ST) constituency. On the other hand, Apurba Hazarika of Congress, Dhaneswar Hazarika of AGP and independent candidate Golok Borah are in fray in No, 20 Jokaipeluwa-Harmoti (ST) constituency. In all these constituencies, BJP and AGP have forged alliance to win the election.
The Lakhimpur district administration has set up a total of 25 polling stations across the five constituencies to conduct the election in the district. The constituencies are divided into 4 zones and 7 sectors and one Zonal Officer is appointed in each zone. Similarly, one Sector Officer is appointed in each sector. A total of 25 Presiding Officers, 25 First Polling Officers, 25 Second Polling Officers and 25 Third Polling Officers will conduct the election in the 25 Polling Stations. A total of 9,293 electors - 4,698 male electors and 4,595 female electors - will decide the fate of these 15 candidates in Lakhimpur district.
