Assam: EC to utilise special software for electoral rolls post delimitation of constituencies.

GUWAHATI: After the delimitation of constituencies in Assam, the Election Commission of India (ECI) is developing a special software for the preparation of the LAC (Legislative Assembly Constituency)-wise new draft photo electoral roll-2024 in the state. The ECI is going to take this special as the constituencies in the state have had their boundaries drastically changed after the delimitation exercise.

According to sources in the Election Department of the state, the TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) is developing the software under the guidance of the ECI. This software will help with the expulsion and inclusion of villages from and into the LACs based on the final delimitation notification. The State Election Department will carry out a pilot in an LAC with the software that is at its final stage.

The ECI has extended the timeframe for the publication of the draft and final photo electoral rolls in Assam as the roll revision exercise in the state is very critical. According to the schedule, the publication of the draft photo electoral roll for 2024 in Assam is on December 1, 2023, and the final roll is on January 31, 2024.
