GOLAGHAT: All arrangements have been made in Golaghat district for the 8,196 voters who are above 80 years so that they can cast their votes by postal ballots during the forthcoming Assembly polls. Such ballots will be collected from their homes as and when required.

Of the 8,196 voters above the age of 80 years included in the electoral roll so far in the four Assembly constituencies of the district, as many as 7,082 voters are between the ages of 80 and 89 years; 1,028 voters between the ages of 90 and 99 years; and 86 voters above the age of 100.

Constituency-wise, the details are as follows: The 94-Sarupathar Constituency has the maximum number of 2,181 voters in the age group of 80-89 years; 319 in the age group of 90-99 years; and 32 voters in the age group of 100 years and above.

In the 93-Bokakhat constituency, there are 1,175 voters in the age group of 80-89 years; 177 voters in the age group of 90-99 years and eight voters above 100 years of age.

In the 95-Golaghat constituency, there are 2,222 voters in the age group of 80-89 years; 327 in the age group of 90-99 years; and 32 voters in the age group of 100 and above.

In the 96-Khumtai constituency, there are 1,504 voters aged 80-89 years; 205 voters aged 90-99 years; and 14 voters above 100 years of age.

In addition, Golaghat district has 2,672 specially-abled voters so far. The Election Officer added that special arrangements would be made to provide wheelchairs or other means of transportation to the polling stations for the PwD (People with Disabilities) voters, if required. However it will depend on the availability of vehicles and requirements of the voters.

The Golaghat district administration has also geared up the necessary preparations for the smooth conduct of the forthcoming Assembly elections in the State. In order to make the voters aware about participating in the electoral process, extensive measures have been taken under the 'Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation' programme, popularly known as SVEEP.

According to the Election Officer of Golaghat election district, the district administration has made all the necessary arrangements such as safe drinking water, separate toilets for men and women, as well as proper signage and ramps in the polling booths for the voters.
