GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has requested the Department of Posts, Government of India, to carry out free Aadhaar enrollment drive among students of private schools in the State.
The 'Axom Sarba Siksha Abhijaan' (ASSA) in collaboration with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) — a statutory authority — recently started the Aadhaar enrollment among students of government schools. The enrollment drive will cover students from Class I to XII.
The Office of the Superintendent of Post Offices, Guwahati Division has already sent letters to heads of various private schools requesting them to enroll students for the Aadhaar drive.
The State Government has earmarked Rs 16.32 lakh for the Aadhaar enrollment at the elementary and secondary school level in the next two months. In the first phase that started on Monday, students from Classes IX to XII will be enrolled for Aadhaar. The ASSA has written to the UIDAI to ensure that all COVID-safety protocols are followed while enrolling students for Aadhaar.
