GUWAHATI: Around 37,792 households in the state are still out of the grid (without a power connection). The APDCL (Assam Power Distribution Corporation Ltd) has set the target of providing power connection to every household in the state by fiscal 2022-23.
According to official sources, the state needs 1,597 MW of power daily. Despite the generation capacity of 443.06 MW daily, the State Power Department produces only 267 MW a day – 96 MW from Lakuwa Thermal Plant, 124 MW from Namrup Thermal Plant, and 3 MW from Myntriang Small Hydro Electric Project and 44 MW from Karbi-Langpi Hydro Power Project.
According to sources, a plan is in the pipeline for generating 431.5 MW of power from eight plants.
According to official sources, the numbers of households that have not yet got power connection are – 4,183 from Dhubri, 3,085 from Barpeta, 2,555 from Cachar, 1,415 from Biswanath, 3,134 from Dima Hasao, 2,050 from Goalpara, 1,924 from Karbi Anglong and 1,900 from Kamrup.
