PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE
STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI: Guwahati seems to be in for experiencing something unpleasant with its roads remaining without security personnel at night after the outbreak of COVID-19. Without security personnel, now Guwahati roads at night look desolate and perfect havens for miscreants.
Before the pandemic, the roads of Guwahati were teeming with police personnel, both day and night. Apart from police patrolling parties, CRPF personnel accompanied by home guards and policemen, were seen guarding the city. Even at that time there were crimes in Guwahati like murder, burglary, temple theft etc.
However, things have gone for a worse at night in Guwahati with security personnel literally giving miscreants a freehand to carry on their professional activities like looting, killing, stealing, smuggling and the like.
This lapse on the part of the administration has posed a threat to a section of people whose jobs make them to render essential services both day and night. Such people include the medical fraternity, media fraternity and a few others.
They say prevention is better than cure. What is seen in Guwahati, nay, in Assam is that the administration gets awaken only when something unpleasant occurs – be them crimes, landslides, water-logging and whatnot. Is it not imperative for the administration to deploy adequate number of security personnel on city roads at night before anything unpleasant like murder, looting, robbery etc happen? How come the authority forgets that this metropolitan city has a 'night life' too?
