GUWAHATI: Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that deputy commissioners (DCs) of districts with more than 100 COVID-19 positive cases have been asked to close schools from Class 1-5.

Talking to newsmen here on Saturday, Sarma said that Kamrup (M), Kamrup, Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Jorhat, Tinsukia and Cachar have 100+ COVID-19 positive cases. He said that the order for the closer of primary schools in these districts will be effective from Monday.

"If the situation improves, the deputy commissioners can take decision to reopen schools on their own. If COVID positive cases cross the 100 mark in more districts in the State, the order for the closure of primary schools will be effective there too," he said.

On HSLC (High School Leaving Certificate) and HS (Higher Secondary) examinations, the Minister said, "We've asked the SEBA (Board of Secondary Education, Assam) and the AHSEC (Assam Higher Secondary Education Council) to hold meetings with parents within ten days. The final decision on the issue will be taken by the next government. Till then, we're observing the situation."
