GUWAHATI: A section of Assam journalists has received an audio clip from the pro-Khalistan outfit Sikhs for Justice in their mobile handsets, with a warning to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for, as they said, torturing pro-Khalistani supporters in an Assam jail and other Sikhs staying in the state.

The audio clip claims the voice is that of “general counsel of Sikhs for Justice Gurpatwan Singh Pannu.”

An English rendering of the audio clip in Hindi is something like they had information that the pro-Khalistani supporters imprisoned in Assam are being tortured. They said that their fight is against the Indian regime and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and hence it is better for the Assam Chief Minister not to meddle in the matter. “If you or your government tortures the pro-Khalistani supporters and other Sikhs in Assam, you will be accountable for that,” the audio clip said.

DGP GP Singh said that the police registered a case under appropriate sections of the IPC and UAP Act at the Special Task Force Police Station, besides adequately sensitizing the security component of the Chief Minister.

The DGP said that the Assam Police has taken the matter seriously in view of the global events. The State Police have also kept the central agencies in the loop on the issue.

Reacting to the development, Minister Pijush Hazarika said that he believes that the Chief Minister will not compromise in the interest of the integrity and sovereignty of the country. He dared the terrorists to come to India and issue such warnings instead of issuing them from abroad.
