GUWAHATI: After a long gap, the pro-talk faction of the ULFA had a closed-door discussion with the senior officials of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in New Delhi today.

Details of the discussion are not known. Sources said that the discussion hinged on the draft agreement that was supposed to be signed by the government and the outfit. The Centre had given the draft agreement to the outfit in April this year.

Earlier, the ULFA faction moved the Centre in June this year, seeking some amendments to the draft agreement. According to sources, today’s discussion was mainly on the proposed amendment to the draft agreement.

Led by its chairman, Arabinda Rajkhowa, the ULFA team had Anup Chetia, Sashadhar Choudhury, and Raju Baruah as members.

Top officials of the MHA, IB, RAW and representatives of the Assam Government were present at the discussion that will continue. Discussion at the political level is likely after the successful completion of the talks on the draft agreement at the bureaucratic level. There are reports that Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma are supposed to take part in the political-level talks, if any. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is in New Delhi. The Centre has been holding talks with the pro-talk faction of the ULFA since 2011.
