GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today directed all ministers and senior secretaries to ensure that projects/schemes which are underway and those which are about to be launched, must be completed within a stipulated time frame. He also laid stress on making the government administrative machinery people-centric.

The Chief Minister today chaired a meeting to review the progress of externally-aided projects and centrally-sponsored projects. He also took stock of the progress made in implementing the decisions taken during the Chintin Shivir held in Kaziranga a couple of months back.

Chief Minister Sarma tweeted, "Asked ministers and senior secretaries to adopt measures for making governance more people-centric and responsive."

It has been observed that many development projects and schemes launched for the progress of the State and the welfare of the people lose steam after a while. Despite a lot of funds being spent from the State exchequer, many projects remain unproductive or do not see the light of the day. Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and other infrastructures are lying non-functional even after their completion as staff have not been recruited. Several bridges are lying half-done. Things come to such a pass because there is a lack of monitoring of projects and schemes on the part of the authorities concerned.
