GUWAHATI: The Azara Police has found evidences of Global Edu Light's involvement in the recent JEE (Joint Entrance Examination-Mains) scam in Guwahati. This was confirmed during a raid carried out at the Ambari-based office of the institute here on Tuesday. The Police team also took BhargavDeka – the owner of this institute – during the raid there.

It has now come to light that while Bhargav had monitored the institute's business from Delhi, its ground-level activities were managed by counsellorKakoliBuzarbaruah and staffer RubulMedhi. Kakoli is presently in the custody of Azara Police. Rubul is yet to be traced.

During the day, Azara Police also seized the car (AS01 DE2400) of DrJyotirmoy Das, father of 'State topper' Neel Nakshatra Das. It was in this vehicle that RubulMedhi had taken Neel to a particular spot from where the candidate proceeded to the examination centre in another car.

Sources also stated that the institute is just a counsellingcentre. Its employees take part in various 'Edu Fairs' to rope in gullible parents and their wards in different courses pertaining to engineering, medical, and management among other activities. Subsequently, the counsellor and other staffers strike the lucrative deals in various ways.

It was during one such 'Edu Fair' that BhargavDeka met HemendraNathSarma , an employee of Tata Consultancy Services – the private agency in charge of the centres conducting such examinations. Azara Police arrested Hemendra on October 28.

Meanwhile, the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court here on Tuesday remanded five of the already arrested persons to judicial custody as each of them had completed five-day police custody. The persons includeHemendraNathSarma and another TCS staffer PranjalKalita, besides Neel Nakshatra Das, and his father — DrJyotirmoy Das — as well as invigilator Hiru Kamal Pathak. Mentionably, Neel had spilled the beans in an audio clip in the social media almost 50 days after the examination was held on September 5. The clip went viral. Subsequently, an FIR was filed in the Azara Police station.

Earlier, the Azara Police had sent a letter to the 'National Testing Agency' (NTA) seeking its permission to examine the footages of the examination held at the 'Ion Digital Centre' at Borjhar here. The request was made as only after examination of the footages there will be clarity as to the identity, location and also the modus operandi of the proxy candidate(s) and hackers (if any) on the day of the examination. Sources informed that the NTA has given its reply. However, its details were being examined till the filing of this report.

The New Delhi-based NTA is an Indian government agency. It was established as a premier, specialist, autonomous and self-sustained testing organization to conduct entrance examinations for admission/fellowship in higher educational institutions.
