GUWAHATI: Three candidates filed their nomination today on the last day for filing nomination papers for polls to two Rajya Sabha seats in Assam.

Pabitra Margherita of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rwngwra Narzary of the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) and Ripun Bora of the Congress filed their nominations. While Pabitra Margherita and Rwngwra Narzary were accompanied by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) president Atul Bora, Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro and BJP State president Bhabesh Kalita, Ripun Bora was accompanied by Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Bora, Congress and AIUDF MLAs, CPI (M) MLA Manoranjan Talukdar and independent MLA Akhil Gogoi.

After the filing of nomination papers, Chief Minister Sarma exuded confidence that the ruling alliance will win both seats. "I hope that the Congress MLAs will support us. But we do not need the support of AIUDF," he said.
