Ranghar to soon become a world class tourist destition

GUWAHATI, Nov 15: The historical Ranghar of Sivsagar, the magnificent amphitheatre of the Ahom morchs, will soon become a world class tourist destition.

 In the list of 27 destitions all over the country chosen for overall conservation, preservation and presentation as world class tourist destitions by the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) , Ranghar has found inclusion along with the likes of Taj Mahal, Qutub Mir, Leh Palace, Elephanta Caves and Sun Temple.

Speaking to this reporter, Superintending Archaeologist of ASI Guwahati Circle K. Amarth Ramakrish said, “Ranghar of Assam has been chosen amongst 27 magnificent monuments of India for development into world class tourist destitions. Recently, we submitted our proposal to the Director General of ASI, New Delhi. As soon as the proposal is approved, we will begin work.”

“We have plans to build a beautiful and attractive cafeteria in the premises of the amphitheatre, arrange for proper drinking facility, build a better toilet block and ticketing counter for tourists’ facilities. We also have plans to provide various facilities for differently-abled tourists to visit the monument.”

Ramakrish also informed that there are a total 70 monuments of Assam, Meghalaya, galand and Aruchal under ASI. However, only Ranghar has been selected to be brought into intertiol tourist attention. He said, although the proposal has already been sent for approval, it will take at least a year to complete the project.
