GUWAHATI: Directorate General of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta on Saturday appealed to the ULFA (I) to release on humanitarian ground the two kidnapped oil-drilling firm officials of the Quippo Oil and Gas Infrastructure Limited.

"I sincerely hope that the ULFA (I) will not do anything that would be detrimental to the image of Assam in the national and global arenas," said Mahanta while speaking to a few television reporters.

The banned outfit had abducted radio operator Ram Kumar and drilling superintendent Pranab Kumar Gogoi from the Kumchaikha hydrocarbon drilling site in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh on December 21, 2020.

ULFA (I) publicity wing member Rumel Asom in an emailed statement on Friday had said that the outfit has decided to take action against the two officials as they have not got any positive response from the oil drilling firm Quippo Oil and Gas Infrastructure Limited.

Speaking to a television news channel on Saturday, ULFA (I) chief Paresh Barua said that the outfit has been forced to issue warning of extreme steps due to unreciprocated attitude of the Quippo Oil & Gas Infrastructure Limited.
