GUWAHATI: The Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD) Department has asked all the chief executive officers (CEOs) of Zila Parishads of the state to relocate the markets that are operating from the sides of national highways. It has also instructed all deputy commissioners of the state to take necessary action in this regard.
It has come to the notice of Dispur that markets operating from the sides of national highways disturb the free movement of traffic. Such areas are prone to accidents. Many accidents took place near such roadside markets.
According to the reports from the project directors of District Rural Development Agencies (DRDA) of the state, the state has 85 markets operating from the sides of national highways. In its letter, the department has asked all the CEOs of Zila Parishads in the state to relocate all these accident-prone markets to more secured areas where such problems will not arise.
