GUWAHATI: Union Minister of Earth Sciences Kiren Rijiju said that the Central government is committed to the growth and development of the Northeast, and with the initiative taken by the government during the last nine years, the Northeast will be a vibrant economic hub.
The Union Minister said this at ‘DD Dialogue’, a conclave organized in Guwahati today by DD News on the theme "Resurgent Northeast".
Inaugurating the event, Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria said that the theme of Resurgent Northeast resonates deeply with the aspirations and potential of the region. Northeast India, with its rich cultural diversity and breathtaking natural beauty, has always been a source of inspiration and pride for everyone.
The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Ayush Sarbananda Sonowal, asserted that the landmark decisions taken by the Union Government enabled good governance and ease of living for the citizens. Talking about the countdown to International Yoga Day, the Minister said that Government of India is working to bring the world together, and this year there is a plan to practise yoga on the five oceans of the world.
Attending the conclave, Union Minister Rijiju shared his thoughts on ‘Act East through Northeast’. He said that after 2014, the government has prioritized the Northeast, and its results are visible in the growth and development of the region. The Minister asserted that to maintain peace in the Northeast, the present government is actively discussing the issues of various sections of the region through peace talks, as a result of which many militant groups have surrendered and adopted the path of peace.
Rijiju further said that the government is committed for the growth and development of Northeast and with the initiative taken by the government during the last nine years, Northeast will be a vibrant economy hub. He further said that the commitment of the government is visible from the fact that the Prime Minister of India has already visited NE almost 52 times during his tenure and the Union Ministers are visiting Northeast in every 15 days.
Later in the day, a panel discussion was held with Bedu Singh Panth, Minister of Commerce & Industries, Sikkim and Padmapani Bora, MD Assam Tourism and Tourism Secretary, Assam, where they discussed the tourism avenues in state of Sikkim and Assam.
The daylong DD Dialogue was organized with an aim to hold one-to-one interactions with Union Ministers as well as panel discussions on various themes with experts from different fields. (PIB)
