GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged the functionaries concerned to prepare the new list of Orunodoi beneficiaries by rising above political ideologies and partisan intentions

The Chief Minister's appeal came on Thursday while chairing a meeting through video-conferencing with public representatives, Deputy Commissioners and members of the District-Level Monitoring Committees to review the progress of the surveys for inclusion of new eligible beneficiaries and exclusion of ineligible beneficiaries with regard to the Orunodoi scheme.

Sarma further said that the surveys on the current financial situation of the state's 20 lakh beneficiaries of the Orunodoi scheme have been concluded and the relevant documents have been sent to the respective Deputy Commissioners. The Chief Minister directed the members of the District-Level Monitoring Committees to collect the data from the Deputy Commissioners and complete the investigation regarding those left out of the scheme till date and prepare a list of the new beneficiaries within the next 10 days.

In order to ensure timely payment of the Orunodoi amount to the beneficiaries in the month of November as well, the Chief Minister asked the District-Level Monitoring Committees to convene a meeting by October 22 next and finalize the data by October 25. The Chief Minister further directed the Deputy Commissioners to upload the final data by October 28.

Thursday's meeting was attended by Cabinet Ministers Atul Bora, Urkhao Gwra Brahma, Ranoj Pegu, Ajanta Neog, Jogen Mohan, MPs Pallab Lochan Das and Pabitra Margherita and senior officials of the government.

It may be recalled that the state government had decided to deploy college students to carry out house-to-house surveys of beneficiaries of the Orunodoi scheme from August 1 last to ascertain their current economic status.

There are around 20 lakh women beneficiaries in the state under this scheme, who are now receiving Rs 1,250 on the 10th day of every month through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. The state government had earlier taken a policy decision to increase the number of beneficiaries by 5,000 in each of the 126 Assembly constituencies of Assam. The 'social audit' (survey) carried out recently was aimed at identifying new beneficiaries as well as verifying whether the economic condition of any existing beneficiary has improved during the pendency of the scheme. If such beneficiaries are identified, then they will become ineligible to benefit under the scheme.
