GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the Government would provide Rs 1,000 crore – Rs 500 crore by the Centre and as much by the State Government – for the development of the Adivasis in the state.
Talking to the media after signing the tripartite agreement in New Delhi today, the Chief Minister said, "The Centre and the State Government are committed to the overall development of the Adivasis – economically, socially and politically. The agreement will usher in a new era of peace and harmony in the state. Following the agreement, as many as 1,170 members of the rebel groups will surrender with arms and ammunition. We will form an Adivasi Welfare Council, pay compensation to the affected Adivasi families and withdraw their crimes that are non-heinous, besides rehabilitating them as per the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). To look into the matters of all Adivasis of the state, we will rename the present 'Tea Tribe Welfare Department' as 'Tea Tribe and Adivasi Welfare Department.
