GUWAHATI: Terming the Right to Information Act (RTA) as a holy law and an essential part of democracy, State Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said that this law has helped the public rid the administration of corruption and discrepancies.
The CIC also asked the participants of the workshop to study the intricacies of the RTI Act, 2005. He called on the officials to treat the applications under the RTI Act with all seriousness and mentioned it as an essential part of strengthening democracy.
The CIC said this on the concluding day of a workshop organized by the State Information Commission on the premises of the Administrative Staff College on the occasion of Right to Information Week today.
The Right to Information Week started on October 6 and concluded today.
In his speech, the former State Information Commissioner, Dr. Samudragupta Kashyap, gave practical explanations regarding the various implementations of the Right to Information Act, 2005.
